          Within "The Machine Stops" Forester creates a futuristic world that has a machine that basically does everything for the people who use it. This machine is basically life for people in the future. It helps them in the everyday world. It helps them communicate with one another in a virtual way, it helps them eat, dress. It basically does everything for them. Therefore, they don't need to pick up a finger to do anything. Kuno, the son of Vashti, called his mom up one day through the machine and wanted her to visit him. He is across the world from her so she says no. Her reasoning is that she can talk to him through the machine. The machine is basically the technology we have out today in this time period. Kuno doesn't believe that the machine is good and wants to communicate with him mom in person. His mom is caught up with the machine and denies. We are like Vashti. We don't realize the harm technology is doing to our lives. Kuno has more of a realistic view point and hates the machine. Kuno would most definitely be a person hating technology.
          Kuno sees the harm with technology and so therefore he becomes "homeless" in the story. Being "homeless" is living without the machine so basically without technology. For the second production I chose Wall-E. Wall-E is basically responding to how people are becoming more and more lazy with all of the technology advances. It also shows how the humans in the future are so distracted with their little own world within the technology.
           The two are very similar in the fact that it's both criticizing technology. Both are showing technology in a bad way that show how humans become incapable of helping themselves. The stories also both have a machine that does everything for them. They can video chat and get dressed all by the machine. The only really big difference that is between the two is that in Wall-E the machine is taking away from life and is distracting the humans from seeing the world around them.
            Wall-E is more for the kids and so it does have humor within a huge topic. "The Machine Stops" is a lot heavier and harder to understand, because it is such a weird topic of the future. Wall-E is also a movie while "The Machine Stops" is a short story. Therefore it's easier to understand Wall-E, but "The Machine Stops" has a lot of good ideas about the future and what it could possible look like.
              I don't believe that the future is going to become this bad, but there is a possibility. From what I think we are going to be more careful about the future, because we have all of these scary ideas. I think people are going to have implants in their heads which is a very scary thought. I personally don't even know what the future is going to look like, but I hope we aren't as lazy and incapable of communicating with one another on a face to face basis. From these two examples I think they would be more Utopian since everyone seems to be happy except for that one exception. The future is a very scary thought and with all of this new talk about what it's going to look like is even scarier.

Freeze Creative Proposal

My presentation topic is the future in communication. For this topic many ideas come to mind. For instance, making a video of people chatting with each other of course is going to come into play. Even though that’s already around and is known as Skype and many other things video chatting can be developed more to the fact that it’s flawless. Another idea would be to create a hologram sort of looking thing on a movie and show two people talking with one literally in the same room. This is an idea that hasn’t been developed, but maybe creating a futuristic cell phone that can have a hologram or can contain literally everything in a simple little phone. Sort of like a smart phone, but more advanced and more useful to everyday life. Like I said though, that idea isn’t even developed to the full.

            I think communication is going to change rapidly. Through social networking with video and a simple phone call communication continues to transform in front of our eyes. I think communication is going to be transformed completely in the future. Maybe we will be able to apparate, or hit a button and be transferred to some place. Or you simply take a picture and you can choose to go to that place by selecting the picture.

I would love to make a movie to show communication in some way or maybe even an audio tape. Or I could show everyday life with communication in a person’s life in the future from transportation to talking to just overall being connected. I would need a laptop, a video camera, props for the video, and maybe an audio recorder along with some help from someone. My plan is to basically start soon and figure out what I want to do first. Then I’m going to progressively do my video in separate sections and not all at once. Then when I go home for Thanksgiving break I’m going to tape all the other components of my video in my house. Lastly, I’m going to edit at my house and then finish in time for November 28^th. I’m going to start this project by November 8^th, 2011.

Privacy is very important when it comes to everyday life. Everyone has those private thoughts that go through their minds every second of every minute of every day. Those thoughts never leave your mind. Are they private? Yes very much so, no one else knows what you are thinking about. Online privacy is when thoughts and comments online aren’t read by the world and are kept under lock and key. For instance, a blog that only a couple of people read is very private. Another example would be the private Facebook groups that one can make for only a couple of people’s eyes. Some more private things online would be your number or certain comments you make on walls. Anything you put online though has a way of not really being all that private. According to the article “How Facebook is Redefining Privacy” Zuckerburg’s (the founder of Facebook) next goal is to increase the amount of emotions on Facebook. That is not being private on the web. Emotions are very personal and when they are shared to more people than you expected then one would feel their privacy is invaded. Personal privacy is basically thoughts and feelings that you keep within or talk only to a few people. Also, it could literally be locking yourself in your room to be alone with your thoughts.

I share a good amount of stuff from my heart with people, but never things on my mind in person of course. Online though I just say the common things that people share. I share very vague things like my favorite color is blue or I love Harry Potter. Basically the things that people are going to find out eventually so why not just tell them online. On Facebook, I share everything with people except for my number, my email, where I live, and my high school. Everything else I share with all my friends.

After Googling myself I found that my twitter name comes up, and my times for Cross Country, Indoor, and Outdoor Track come up. Am I surprised? No not at all, I knew that my times from racing were going to be posted on the internet and of course I knew my twitter account name was probably going to come up somewhere. I believe that I tend to be a little creepy sometimes, but Spokeo is creepier than me. It knows where I live and who my siblings, and my dad. I’m not okay with all that information being on the internet. Privacy is very important and one main private thing that I don’t want the whole world to know is where I live.

In class writing #9

The article is focused solely on Facebook users. I'ts all about how people who sign up for Facebook don't read all the conditions and how Facebook can give your information to third party users. How do I know this? The article only talks about Facebook users and how third parties can easily access your information from your profile. The article is responding to how Facebook can take information from our profile and sell it to third parties outside. Michael Gregoris believes that users should be aware of these third parties and know what they are getting themselves into when they sign-up. Also, he wants users to be careful of the third parties. There is a website used in the article that claims the CIA funded Facebook in some sort of way. He also provides specific numbers of how many people were on Facebook in 2007 which adds to his creditably.
This article contains logos. Who would want to keep their Facebook profile if they knew that third parties are selling their information. Therefore this article got to me enough to delete my Facebook profile. I wasn't about to keep something that was selling my information and tracking my online track.

The Bach- The Bachelor is a major chick flick that women and some men love to watch, and follow the stories between the couple after the show.

Full House- Everyone has heard of Full House by either watching the show or hearing about Danny, Joey, Jessie, Rebecca, DJ, Stephanie or Michelle. It’s a huge part of the generation before mine and even combines with mine.

-          Brief Summary (3 sentences)

A simple video game “Grand Theft Auto” is changing the ways boys think when it comes to killing actual people. This game gives the boys and men who play a chance to see that maybe killing isn’t as bad as people portray. With technology growing and the game seeming to take off the way it as so has many homicides and killings.

-          Briefly Paraphrase (3 sentences)

Beck’s argument is clearly stated when he talks about his video game. He looks through history seeing that people in WW2 were having trouble killing other humans. Now years later many men can shoot someone without much thought when it comes to war. He says now boys can experience what soldiers in WW2 had to go through for only 60 dollars. With technology kids are being exposed to violence and Beck says that the games are to blame for all of the homicides that go on today.  With Grand Theft Auto getting so big so are the numbers of homicides. Beck believes this is crazy and should be stopped.

-          Analysis of the video

Video games are becoming more and more violent for kids. Like Beck said violence in video games are causing kids to think that killing is okay and lets them kill without much hesitation in the game so why not in real life. Violence in video games are becoming a huge concern for the commonwealth of society.
